Course content
The seminar consists of two parts: A) Preparatory phase during the summer semester at individual universities: study of primary and secondary literature, preparation of presentations of partial papers on selected topics B) Joint weekly seminar (22 - 27/6/2020), consisting of a series of workshops, lectures and other activities: The first presentation of papers on selected topics (KGER and Bayreuth University students) The second workshop in mixed groups (KGER and Bayreuth University) The third workshop will focus on Image and Text (Dr. Susanne Hochreiter, Universität Wien) 4th lecture Graphic Novel (Dr. Kalina Kupczynska, University of Łódź) The fifth task of the course: Excursion in the footsteps of Czech-German relations before and after World War II The sixth workshop will consist of reading and a workshop with a selected author of one of the literary works discussed

Learning outcomes
The aim of the seminar is to get students acquainted with the current social and artistic discourse, reflecting Czech-German relations in modern history of the 20th century (German occupation, forced displacement of the German population, the fight against communist dictatorship, the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 and related social changes) an example of genres such as comics, novel, or film. Attention will be focused especially on the relationship of image and text, specifically on Czech and German versions of comics, novels and animated films (Petr Stančík: Perak - Der Superheld aus Prag; Jan Novak/Jaromir Svejdík: Czech Language. The seminar is organized in cooperation with the Department od Intercultural German Studies at Bayreuth University.
The student is well versed in the history of Czech-German intercultural relations with an emphasis on the 20th century and is familiar with current artistic and literary discourse concernin the relation of text and image (illustrated novel, comics, animated film).

Participants of seminar will independently elaborate and present the paper, they will actively participate in the work on the project in mixed Czech-German groups and its presentation.
