The target of the course "Political Sociology" is presentation of the problems of today's political sociology, of course, related to the central societal changes - globalization, "liquid modernity", insecurity and breaking contours of the welfare state. All these put all the social sciences, especially political sociology, into a completely new role. We should be able to understand and explain current trends in society and development co ncepts. The aim of the course is to present the key problems of contemporary political sociology and authors dealing with them, including their main concepts and paradigms. Although it focuses mainly on current sociological theory, it is also based on the knowledge of "classical sociology", which will be revised and deepened in the seminar. Interpretation follows two basic lines: a) historical - introduction to problems solved in modern political sociology; b) analytical - here the focus is on contemporary political and social issues. The aim of the course is to create awareness among students of specific social problems and how it is perceived by political sociology today. The course will provide theoretical insight, however, theoretical paradigms will be subsequently applied in practice - today's societal debates and problems (unemployment, xenophobia, workfare state etc.). Students will get acquainted with the ability of "reading" so that they will understand today's society also in the point of relevant sociological and political science theory.
Student will get acquainted with the subject matter, be able to analyze and interpret partial phenomena and the more general context and in the long term characteristic features of the topic in the studied countries and regions. |

Essay. Requirements: o proper preparation for lectures / seminars, i.e. regular and thoroughgoing reading of literature for a particular week, active participation in the discussion; o seminar paper: it will be worked out according to the requirements of academic text (it will be specified in the seminars) and handed in no later than the last teaching day of the term (it will be also specified). For each day of delay, the number of pages will increase of two pages. It will not be possible to pass the exam if the work is not finished. The aim of the final test is to prove the ability of comprehensive orientation in the field of political sociology and also compare theoretical background of field and actual operation in practice. |
