Course content
1. The main political program movements in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia in the second half of the 19th century 2. Program spectrum of political parties in Czechoslovakia in 1918-1938 3. Party programs of national minorities in the interwar period of Czechoslovakia 4. Ideological transformation of party programs in the Second Czechoslovak Republic 5. Czech politics in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia 6. Program concepts II. Czechoslovak organizations of resistance 7. Program and the political parties of National Front 1945-1948 8. Communist state ideology after 1948 9. Democrats in illegality (the persecution of non-communist parties after 1948) 10. Exile party organizations and their program disputes in 1948-1989 11. Political thinking in opposition and dissent (1969-1989) 12. Czech political thinking after 1989 13. Czech political parties in new millennium

Learning outcomes
The course will get students acquainted with the development of Czech political thinking, being formed on a platform of political partisanship and political parties in the Czech lands since the second half of the 19th century and in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in 1918-1989 (2004). The course will be focused on the analysis and explanation of the program formation and development of various ideological movements among the political parties.
Students will acquire the following academic knowledge: - is able to characterize the basic stages in the development of the Czech political system since the second half of the 19th century up to now - can use academic terminology - is able to explain the basic problems of Czech political thinking in the context of political partisanship - distinguish the main issues in the political programs of Czech parties.

Assessment methods and criteria

Independent work with academic texts and studying of academic Czech and foreign literature will be required. Students will hand in a seminar work in the extent of 5 pages. At the exam, students will be assessed on the basis of an individual interview related to their work.
