Learning outcomes
The history of Czech-German relations can be characterized from the perspective of communication codes (Czech and German), and their relationships. The seminar will focus on the role of languages in politically extrapolated period of Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. It will demonstrate the functioning of languages in education, administration, public life, and spare-time education. It focuses on so called language politicization as well.
Students will understand the importance of language for society. Students will be able to perceive the history of Czech-German relations through the relationship of the Czech language and the German language. Students will gain a new view of the so-called Sudeten German question. Students will understand the language everydayness during Protectorate
Prerequisites
- orientation in the Czech history of the 18th 20th centuries - interest in the Protectorate history - ability to interpret historical texts - German language knowledge B2 at least

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the seminar, interpretation of historical texts, active participation in discussions on the so-called Sudeten German question.
