Learning outcomes
This course, in terms of its content, is a follow up of the two courses: "Theory and Methods of Intercultural Research" and "(E)Migration Literature from the Czech Lands after 1968". It focuses on intercultural literature as a phenomenon or a trend in contemporary literature of the German language area. As proved in particular by the development after 2000, literature written by author's with the (e)emigrational background and intercultural themes becomes more and more significant and at present it forms an unthinkable part of contemporary German.-written literature (the Nobel Prize award for literature to Herta Müller in 2009 is only one of many examples) and it also contributes significantly to its thematic and stylistic enrichment. The aim of this course is to analyse selected works of contemporary fiction from the German language area from the intercultural point of view and at the same time reflect specific features of intercultural literature in the context of migration literature, with an emphasis put on the literature after the year 1989.
The student will acquire an ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete literary texts from literature of the German language area; with a special attention being paid to students´ analysis of literary texts from the point of view that is not only intercultural, but also the point of view of interculturality and hybridity.
