Learning outcomes

The course aims to acquaint the students with the phraseology of the German language, and especially its idioms and idiomaticity, on the background of their mother tongue, and thus to help them develop a sensitive, creative approach to language together with the skill of stylistically differentiated, plastic expression in both the foreign and the native language. The focus will be on the mediation of selected linguistic and intercultural aspects of the research on phraseological combinations conducted in present-day German while at the same time accentuating the criteria of equivalence, similarity and contrastiveness.
The students will gain awareness of problems related to phrasemes from the point of view of comparative linguistics, lexicography, metaphoricity and symbolicity. Owing to the fact that they will acquire a number of German fixed expressions, they will, in addition, develop their own receptive and productive communicative competence in German.
