Students will be confronted with the German-written literature of the Early New Age (the Renaissance and Baroque Periods), which was gradually coming into existence in context of the Bohemian territory (in Bohemia, in Moravia, and Silesia; and until the year 1638 even in Lusatia) from the 16th until the beginning of 18th century. This course is focused on investigation and research in mutual penetration of German and Czech- written (even Latin-written) Protestant and Catholic literature both at the level of genres and motifs on the one hand and at the level of mutual influencing, taking over and translating. Special attention in this course is devoted to Reformation and Catholic hymnography, homily (homiletics), religious literature and other genres which were prevailing at that time. In the centre of attention are analysis and interpretation of specific texts in the Czech-German intercultural context. The course makes use of knowledge from the sphere of language development and prepares conditions for assigning diploma theses in cooperation with the archives and museums in this region as well as outside this region. The restricted elective course "Biblical Motifs and Christian Tradition in German Literature" and the course called "Development of the German Language in the Czech-German Literary Context."
The knowledge and understanding of the early New Age texts in the Czech-German intercultural context, the deepening of the ability to analyse and interpret literary texts, training abstract thinking skills.
