Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to deepen basic theoretical knowledge in the field of archival material organization, which students learn about in the Archival Science course. However, this course provides a more in-depth and problem-oriented interpretation, primarily related to practical tasks aimed at mastering the basic principles of this key skill for archivists of all levels. The collections created after 1989, which will be covered in the second semester, place specific demands on archivists. It is often necessary to deal with incomplete collections or inappropriate disposals in the past, and it is necessary to carefully choose the principles of internal disposal related to the duplicate preservation of the same information in higher-level files. Attention will also be paid to personal fonds, which are relatively numerous in our archives and require a specific and highly individualized approach. Students will also be introduced to basic methodological tools for organizing various types of fonds, which, however, can never cover all the specifics of the individual development of a given creator, even in the case of mass institutions (district offices, courts, etc.).
Students have a thorough understanding of the theoretical principles related to the organization of newer archival material. They are able to define the binding procedures applicable to this source base. They are able to characterize the connection between archival fonds and registries, and they are able to present the basic rules for organizing selected types of archival fonds.
