It is the first test of language proficiency. Its aim is to verify that the students' speech skills meet the specified level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (roughly the level of Certificate of Advanced English exam). The passing of this demanding exam is rated by 2 credit points. There is a wide range of testing techniques used in this exam (from multiple choice to close tests). Students initially pass the written test consisting of reading, writing and verifying knowledge of grammatical structures. Oral examination then consists also of proving knowledge of curricular areas in the field of cultural studies.
At the end of the semester, the students will prove that they are able to: - Express themselves on a given topic confidently and intelligibly; - Recognize a wide range of idiomatic and colloquial expressions and apply them in practical conversation; - Use the differences between functional styles (they will approach level C1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages of the adequacy of language skills in terms of sociolinguistics); - Handle a wide repertoire of vocabulary, which allows them to replace missing lexical units by a descriptive means; - Practically use a range of general knowledge of the language (also on the level approaching C1); - Express themselves clearly, choose appropriate formulations of broad language content without having to reduce linguistic resources; - Choose the appropriate level of speech formality; - Give complex descriptions and narrations and incorporate sub-themes; - Express and develop ideas and finish them with appropriate conclusions; - Use conditional sentences at the advanced level (in terms of grammatical correctness) and modal verbs in the present and past tense; - Use expanded vocabulary with emphasis on phrasal verbs.
