Course content
|
The course is based on working with texts that allows for the development of discussion on given topics. The development of listening skills is part of the students' preparation for the exam after the second semester. The teacher works selectively and complements the selected textbooks with other authentic materials appropriate for the students' level of English. These materials include film and newspaper texts and other recordings. This course is also available on-line at the UJEP Moodle platform and is designed to include Erasmus students.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this seminar is to enhance the language competence of the students - especially their fluency and accuracy. It is supposed to empower their reading skills and extend their vocabulary by listening to authentic texts for understanding. Students' vocabulary and language skills should be thus brought from level B1, as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference (formerly the level of Advanced English), to the level of an experienced language user (C1) using communicative methods.
At the end of the second semester, the students will be able to: - Express themselves clearly, choose appropriate formulations of broad language content without having to reduce linguistic resources; - Choose the appropriate level of speech formality; - Give complex descriptions and narrations and incorporate sub-themes; - Express and develop ideas and finish them with appropriate conclusions; - Use conditional sentences at the advanced level (in terms of grammatical correctness) and modal verbs in the present and past tense; - Use expanded vocabulary with emphasis on phrasal verbs.
