1. Works awarded at Leipziger Buchmesse or other important literary award in a specific year 2. Works by writers of German speaking countries, who have won the Nobel prize since 2000 3. Trends in contemporary drama explained with an example of drama text 4. Trends in contemporary lyric poetry explained with an example of lyric text 5.-6. Term "intercultural literature" and its presence in contemporary literature of German speaking countries 7.-8. National socialism and the Holocaust as topics in contemporary literature of German speaking countries 9.-10. Family and autobiographical novel in contemporary literature of German speaking countries

Learning outcomes
|
The course focuses on the newest trends in German, Austrian and Swiss literature. Students get familiar with current works and writers, who have awakened an interest of literary criticism. Current trends in literature of German speaking countries are deduced based on analysis of these works, ongoing theoretical discussions will be reflected as well.
Student is familiar with current trends in prose, drama and lyric poetry, can define the main trends in contemporary German, Austrian and Swiss literature and name possible differences. He/she is able to interpret literary work in terms of currrent literary discussion.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit: Students have to read a paper on current lietrary work, which should lead to a discussion in a group and write a seminar paper on a given topic, 10-15 standard pages in length.
