Course content
Survey of Themes: 1. Development of "classical" drama in literature of the German-Language Area 2. Modern drama in the 20th century and its predecessors 3. Development of the novel from the "Classical" period until the present day. 4. Development of the German novel making use of the example of "Entwicklung- und Bildungsroman", from the Baroque period until the Present day 5. Development of the "classical" lyric (formstrenge Lyrik) 6. Development of modern lyric (formoffene und experimentelle Lyrik) 7. Literature of the Early New Age in the Czech-German Context in German-written literature in the 18th and 19th centuries 8. Literature after 1918 in the Czech-German Context (the picture of the Czechs, the Austrians and the Germans) 9. The forcible transfer and ejection in the German-written literature from Bohemia 10. (Im)Migration after 1968 (Czech German -writing authors and authoresses) 11. Interculturality as a trend of contemporary literature of the German-language Area (the present-day discourse, characteristic features, common signs and differences)

Learning outcomes
This course prepares students for the final state examination and follows two main aims. In the first part of the seminars we will revise the knowledge acquired predominantly in the course of the bachelor level of studies in the area of individual literary periods on the basis of the students´ own reading of primary literature; with the emphasis being placed on the diachronic point of view and a focus on individual genres. In the second part of the course students are systematically prepared for individual thematic areas covering all areas of literary history of the German-language area. The work in the seminars will be based on independent study of secondary literature; with the accent being given the Czech-German intercultural context. The knowledge of intercultural theories acquired in the course of the master study programme will be applied for the student's analysis of selected literary works in the area of the Early New Ages, the literature of 18th and 19th centuries (Czech themes and motifs), the literature after 1918 (picture of the Czechs, the Austrians and the Germans), as well as in literature after 1945 (the themes of forcible transfer, migration literature and interculturality in contemporary literature of the German-language area.
The student will acquire the ability to find orientation in the sphere of individual literary areas on the basis of their own reading of primary texts/literature and in addition to that the ability to apply theoretical and methodological knowledge to specific literary works.
