Learning outcomes
The seminar is a thematically focused follows-up of the umbrella course "Theory and Methods of Intercultural Research" and the following historically focused courses: "The History of the Germans in the Czech Lands in the 19th and the first half of 20th century" and "The End of Czech-German Co-habitation in North Western Bohemia". The Sudeten German inhabitants represented for centuries inseparable part of the historical, political and artistic development of the Czech lands. Along with the end of the Second World War and the post-war development of Europe the continuity of mutual Czech-German language and cultural transfer was interrupted. This course is focused on literary reflection of the forcible transfer and ejection of Sudeten German inhabitants, with the conception being understood both interdisciplinary and regionally. These issues and problems are looked at from the literary and historical and social and historical point of views, with stress being put on specific features of the Bohemian and Saxon cross-border country. The most significant part of the course will be devoted to analyses and interpretations of the works associated with the above-mentioned issues; with contemporary Czech literature being taken into consideration as well.
The core of this branch of science will be seen in literary analyses and interpretation of texts and at the same time students will be extending their knowledge about German literature in the Czech-German intercultural and interdisciplinary context on the basis of reading /studying primary and secondary texts, they will also improve their interpretative and argumentative skills.
