This Bachelor thesis "Analysis of the shadow in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein from various perspectives" aims to look back at Mary Shelley's novel called Frankenstein using various perspectives, from Romantic and psychological to metaperspective. One of the aims is to show how theories, such as Jungian shadow, Bandura's social learning theory or Maslow's principles of self-actualization, can be used to analyze the behavior of the character in the novel. Mainly it focuses on the concept of shadow inside of every person and the struggle that is necessary to not lose ourselves to our darker counterpart. Furthermore, this work will demonstrate the opinions of Shelley's contemporaries as the world they are living in is succumbing to a great change in the form of industrialization, meaning that nature that they valued so much is disappearing in favor of factories and the Romantic values are about to be replaced by a newer wave of thinking.

The aim of the work is to analyse the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and the monster in the perspective of Carl Jung's shadow analogy and the influence of culture on the development of a human being. Furthermore, it explores the benefits and dangers of scientific advancements as seen in the personal philosophy of Mary Shelley and the writers of the Romantic Movement. The thesis will also explore, from a meta-perspective, the irony of the novel as the human temptation to overstep moral boundaries.
