Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje, vysvětluje a charakterizuje klíčové vnější vlivy obklopující život Roberta A. Heinleina a práci na jeho vědecko-fantastickém románu Hvězdná Pěchota z roku 1959. Pro vysvětlení povahy a vlivu knihy je práce rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. Hlavní body této práce pokrývají Heinleinovy osobní zkušenosti a názory týkající se vojenské služby a politického i každodenního života ve Spojených státech během období Velké hospodářské krize, druhé světové války a studené války a vysvětlují, jak ovlivnily jeho literární dílo. Společně s tím práce rozkládá Hvězdnou Pěchotu na jednotlivá témata a zdůrazňuje několik významných literárních témat, konceptů a trop, které se pravděpodobně poprvé objevily v Hvězdné Pěchotě, nebo byly silně ovlivněny Hvězdnou Pěchotou a které lze zpozorovat v dalších vědecko-fantastických dílech. Jako celek se práce snaží představit a obhájit kulturní odkaz Hvězdné Pěchoty jako vlivného a důležitého díla, které stále pomáhá formovat vědecko-fantastický žánr, jak ho známe.

This bachelor thesis analyses, explains and characterizes the key external influences surrounding Robert A. Heinlein's life as well as work on his 1959 science-fiction novel Starship Troopers. To explain the nature and influence of the book, the thesis is split into three major parts. The core points of this thesis will cover Heinlein's personal experience and opinions regarding military service and the political and everyday life in the United States during the Great Depression, Second World War, and the Cold War periods, explaining how they influenced his literary work. Alongside this, the thesis breaks down Starship Troopers into individual literary components and highlights several prominent themes, concepts and tropes that have possibly first appeared in Starship Troopers or were greatly influenced by Starship Troopers and that can be traced in great lengths in subsequent science-fiction works. Ultimately, the thesis seeks to present and defend the cultural legacy of Starship Troopers as an impactful and influential work that still helps to shape the science-fiction genre as we know it.
