This thesis briefly introduces multiple sclerosis in the first place, including its symptoms, diagnosis, therapy options, or factors that may influence whether someone develops multiple sclerosis or not. It then describes secondary communication disorders suffered by some patients in connection (not only) with this chronic condition. It focuses primarily on language production problems but also briefly addresses language perception issues. These communication difficulties are divided into linguistic, speech, and cognitive disorders. Linguistic disorders include aphasia, while the most significant speech disorders include dysarthria and speech apraxia. The analytical part examines whether patients with MS suffer from these problems in connection with MS and other communication problems resulting from the influence of multiple sclerosis on the central nervous system. The research consists of a questionnaire with questions compiled based on the theoretical part analysing individual symptoms and a semi-structured interview with three respondents. Although the professional literature (especially in Roztroušená skleróza v praxi by MUDr. Havrdová) states that communication problems in MS patients are not so common, our research shows that dozens of patients suffer from these problems, and it is overlooked. Because we are aware that the healthcare system in the field of multiple sclerosis is heavily burdened, the work ultimately proposes a solution that, we believe, will not burden it even more, yet will provide certain care in this area.

The bachelor work focuses on the speech production of Multiple Sclerosis patients. The autoimmune disease influences the whole nervous system of a patient together with the speech production. The author will describe Multiple Sclerosis with special focus on communication- the production and perception difficulties caused by MS. The symptoms and range of variables, including very problematic fatigue and their influence on the speech production will be described.
The analytical part will combine a questionnaire and an interview with MS patients to investigate their speech production in both languages- Czech mother tongue and English as a foreign language. The data will be analyzed and well commented upon in the context of the theoretical part.
