The aim of this thesis is to find effective methods of lessen the stress during weaning the foals in technical literature. Weaning is a stressful event in the life of all mammals. Weaning of Equus sp. means behavioural and physical changes for both - a foal and his mother. There are several methods of measuring stress: determination of the level of the hormone cortisol in foals' saliva, determination of the level of the cortisol in blood or in faecal or observing behavioural reactions of foals. The works cited prove the behavioural and physical changes during the weaning which are put down to foals' stress reactions. The suitable method of lessen the stress has to be already discussed when the horse is in foal (according to the horse herd hierarchy or its condition). One should treat the mother and its foal well and wean on pasture lands if possible. That is the way how to avoid abnormal behaviour.
