Anotace v angličtině
The aim of this work is to describe the characteristics of the primary and secondary education system of England and to identify the problems it is currently faced with. The thesis mainly focuses on inner workings of the education system and its impact on students and the level of education they achieve upon leaving it.
First, the thesis familiarizes readers with the formal aspects of the English education. The thesis then looks at the national curriculum, working conditions of teachers and how is the system financed. Governmental entities responsible for funding and running the system are also closely examined. Examinations at certain points of school life are scrutinized and analyzed along with the way school inspections are carried out. All of this is supported by national data.
The author then goes on to analyze the most pressing issues the English education system is faced with. This part identifies the reasons why England's education system finds itself in this situation, and recommends suitable courses of action for improvement.
An online research among English citizens in the form of a questionnaire was conducted to find out what opinions the English population has of their education system, and their answers are analyzed and discussed. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that a certain number of English citizens think the education system is in a bad and there is little reason to believe it will improve in the near future. The main contribution of the thesis is its research and the identification of the problems and making recommendations on how to best remedy them.
