Metal groups and crystal structures. Marking of planes and directions in crystallography. Point and line lattice defects and their interactions. Movement of dislocations. 2. Physical properties of materials - thermal properties of metals, electrical properties and electrical conductivity of metals, magnetic properties of metals, diffusion in metals, optical properties of metals. 3. Mechanical properties of materials - deformation of materials, basic mechanical characteristics of materials, strengthening of metals. 4. Chemical properties of materials - corrosion of metallic materials in aqueous solutions, corrosion of metallic materials in gases. 5. Limit states of materials - permanent deformation, fractures, fatigue, creep. 6. Tests of mechanical properties of materials - static tests, dynamic impact and cyclic tests, technological tests. 7. Mechanical static and dynamic tests - strength tests, impact test, material fatigue tests, hardness tests. 8. Technological tests - hardenability test, tests of material type (spark), test of forgeability, weldability, machinability, tests of sheets, wires, flat bar material, tests of pipes.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic knowledge about the properties, structure and testing of the most used construction materials. In addition, the student will get acquainted with the types and mechanisms of damage to materials that may occur during their use, in relation to their properties, such as fractures, fatigue, creep, corrosion, etc. The course emphasizes the testing of mechanical, physical and chemical properties materials.
Students will acquire competencies in the field of overview and use of the most used construction materials, their properties and possibilities of testing these materials. Students will learn to orient in basic procedures and methods of testing the properties of structural materials and apply the acquired knowledge to technical practice.
