Course content
1. Atom structure, atomic nucleus, wave function, atomic orbitals, quantum numbers, Pauli principle of exclusivity, periodicity of electronic configuration of valence sphere. 2. Fundamentals of chemical bond theory, bond energy, bond length, theory of molecular orbitals, hybridization of atomic orbitals, classification of chemical bonds, weak interactions between molecules, Van der Wals forces, hydrogen bonding. 3. Classification of chemical substances, classification of elements, Periodic law, periodic table of elements, nomenclature of inorganic compounds. 4. Chemical reactions, types of chemical reactions, energetic changes during reactions, reaction kinetics, catalysis, equilibrium of chemical reactions. 5. Acids and bases, Lewis theory of acids and bases, expression of acidity and basicity of substances, pH, solutions, mass and molar concentration, mass and molar fraction, dissociation equilibrium constant, solubility of substances. 6. Chemistry of non-metals, hydrogen, oxygen, rare gases. 7. Halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, astatine), binding possibilities of halogens, chemical properties of halogens, binary halogen compounds, oxygenated halogen compounds, production of technically important halogen compounds. 8. Pentels (nitrogen, phosphorus) and chalcogenes (sulfur, selenium, tellurium) - occurrence, chemical properties, production, technically important compounds. 9. Carbon, silicon, boron, bonding of elements, physical and chemical properties, laboratory preparation, industrial production of technically important compounds. 10. Elementary metals and chemistry of transition metals, production and use of metals. Chemistry of non-transition metals, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, physical and chemical properties, production, technical significance, sources. 11. Organic compounds, bonds and structure in organic compounds, saturated hydrocarbons, hydrocarbons with double and triple bonds, hydrocarbon derivatives, cyclo compounds. 12. Alcohols, nitro compounds, amines, aldehydes, carboxylic acids, physical and chemical properties, production, technical significance

Learning outcomes
The aim is to gain an overview of the content of technical terms and the interrelationships of phenomena and properties of elements. Students are acquainted with chemical calculations and basic characteristics of elements and selected compounds.
Orientation in the chemical structure of substances, knowledge of the structure of chemical elements, knowledge of the properties of basic elements with application in technical practice.
