The subject of analytical methods introduces students to analytical methods used in the study of various properties of metallic and non-metallic materials. These are methods based on both quantitative analyzes dealing with the determination of the amount of substances and qualitative analyzes dealing with the detection of the presence of substances. Course contents: 1. Introduction to analytical methods, separation methods. 2. Spectrophotometry - interaction of light with matter. 3. Absorption and emission spectral methods, electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic spectrum, Lambert-Beer law. 4. Absorption and emission spectral methods, mass spectrometry. 5. X-ray spectral analysis. 6. UV and VIS spectrometry, infrared spectrometry. 7. Raman spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance. 8. Microscopy - optical and electron, chemical analysis in electron microscopy. 9. Volumetric methods for determination of unknown concentrations of analyzed substances, volumetric analysis, titration principle. 10. Electrochemical analytical methods, potentiometry, currentless measurement of electromotive force, galvanic cells, potential difference between indication and reference electrode. Electrode types I. and II. order, principle of measurement and use of potentiometry. 11. Chromatography, methods based on the separation of substances between two phases, the establishment of distribution equilibria of the sample between 2 phases (mobile and stationary). Principles of distribution according to the state of the mobile phase, liquid - LC, gas - GC, column, paper, thin film - TLC. 12. Electromigration methods, capillary zone electrophoresis, isotachophoresis, isoelectric focusing. 13. Calorimetric methods and radiochemical methods. 14. Control analytical methods used in materials engineering, new technologies, trace analysis in environmental control and others.
