The course is focused on chemical processes necessary in the metallurgical production chain, either in the liquid phase (production of molten metal, its refining and casting, or in the solid phase, including ecological aspects of metallurgical production. extraction of ores for the production of pig iron and other non-ferrous metals, processes such as flotation and refining of sulfur and chlorine, roasting and precipitation processes, thermal decomposition, reduction processes of oxides and halides, metallothermal reductions, including concentration smelting, magnesium and other non-ferrous metals.
After completing the course, the student has theoretical knowledge of technologies and procedures used in contemporary metallurgy. He is acquainted with the technology of production of individual (most used) metals and the characteristics of individual production processes and stages. In addition to the production and processing of metals, the student is also acquainted with the technologies of chemical processing of iron-based alloys, and is able to analyze such a process and evaluate its quality.
