Course content |
Contents of the subject: 1. Introduction: types of vehicles, their classification, present state, future trends. Mechanics of road vehicles: driving force, resistance to motion, maximum velocity and acceleration, braking, stability, behaviour on the road. 2. Internal combustion engines: lay-out and parameters, function of main components, characteristics. 3. Spark ignition engines: fuels, producing the fuel-air mixture, combustion and exhaust gases, the use of electronic components to control the run of an engine in various situations. 4. Compression ignition engines: fuels, producing the fuel-air mixture, combustion and emissions, turbocharging. 5. Engine installation in the vehicle, engine accessories including the mechatronical equipment. 6. Vehicle driveline: clutch, gearbox, torque converter, main drive, driving axles with joints and wheels, typical drivelines of road and rough-terrain vehicles. 7. Suspension, steering, brakes and electrical equipment, automation. 8. Fork-lift trucks: types and lay-out, drive-line, driving and lifting hydraulics, lifting mechanism with two and three frames including the desk with forks. 9. Tractors and self-propelled machines: types and specific lay-out, function and use in off-road conditions, functional and pulling properties, efficiency, rate of work and economy, ecological aspects. 10. Vehicles driven by electrical energy.

Learning outcomes |
The subject deals with the lay-out, function, basic design and theory of motor vehicles, starting with combustin engines. The vehicle types are particularly represented by those running on roads with hard surface including the material handling equipment such as the fork-lift trucks. The typical rough terrain vehicles are tractors. The aim of the subject is to provide fundamentals to subsequent studies in this field and knowledge useful in manufacture or public services.
