Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical. Students will get acquainted with the basics of medical microbiology - virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, immunology and epidemiology of infections in relation to infectious diseases, the origin and spread of infectious diseases, their laboratory diagnosis and treatment options, including anti-epidemic measures. Furthermore, students will gain information about the principles of health and safety at work in medical workplaces, especially when performing work with biological risk. Students will master the characteristics and principles of prevention of infections associated with health care, hand hygiene and the basics of disinfection and sterilization.
Expertise: The student masters basic technical terminology in the field of microbiology, epidemiology of infectious diseases and immunology, demonstrates knowledge of naming and classifying infectious agents, masters the effects of antimicrobials and resistance, knows the function and components of the immune system, masters the nature and forms of immunization, knows the clinical manifestations of immune changes system, masters the importance and procedures of anti-epidemic measures, including hand hygiene, disinfection and sterilization, masters the principles of health protection of health care workers, prevention of occupational health damage and infections associated with health care. Professional skills: The student is able to read and interpret professional literature in the field of microbiology, epidemiology and immunology applied to medical rescue, can collect biological material for microbiological and serological examination and transport to appropriate laboratories, is able to explain to patients the correct way of using antimicrobial drugs with professional justification, can organize vaccination as part of primary infection prevention. It controls preventive and repressive anti-epidemic measures in the provision of health care, including hand hygiene, disinfection and sterilization, measures to protect the health of healthcare professionals and patients from healthcare associated infections. General competences: The student is able to clearly communicate to professionals and lay people information about the nature of professional problems in microbiology, epidemiology of infectious diseases and immunology in relation to human health, measures to protect the health of health care workers in health care, preventive measures in healthcare associated infections. and coordinate the necessary measures.
