Course content
|
1. History of copyright law codification. Great Britain (Statute of Anne), France, United States. 2. Berne Convention: basis of a modern concept of copyright. 3. Introduction to copyright law: definition of basic terms (work of authorship, author). 4. Content of copyright: exclusive personal copyright and exclusive proprietary copyright. 5. Use of an artwork: manners of use an artwork, possibilities of legal use of an artwork, other property rights. 6. License agreement, royalty: license agreement as a basic instrument for use of an artwork by a third party, determining the amount of royalty. 7. Non-contractual use of works of authorship: three-step test, use of a free work, free use of a work, statutory licenses, special mode of some works. 8. Collective management of copyright: administration of collectively managed rights, extended collective management of rights, and contractual collective management of rights. 9. International agreements: Universal Copyright Convention, Convention Establishing WIPO, so-called Internet agreements WIPO, TRIPS. 10. Copyright protection: protection of copyright, civil law protection, public law protection. 11. Copyright Disputes: Legal aspects of medially known copyright disputes. 12. Current trends and problems in copyright. 13. Guided discussion: copyright aspects of students' own creation.

Learning outcomes
|
The course will familiarize students with copyright basics, especially with respect to students? practical needs, not only as independent authors, but also as potential authors or educators in visual arts. The course aims to provide students with sufficient knowledge about copyright aspects of artistic production, with a special regard to copyrighted works of art.
- students will be familiarized with basic principles of copyright - students will be able to contract creation and use of a copyrighted work - students will be familiarized with specifics of original production at the Faculty or at an educational facility , and as employees - students will be able to correctly determine the amount of royalties for creation and use of a copyrighted work
