1.-2. Politically subversive and anti-war illustrations from the 1960s to the present day. 3.-4. The beginnings of modern comics. DC and Marvel empires versus independent comics. Post-war Japanese manga. Magazines Zap Comix (Robert Crumb), Twen (Heinz Edelmann), Surfer (Rick Griffin), RAW (Art Spiegelman), Modern Papier (Joost Swarte). 5. Picture series in the eastern block. Autobiographical comics. Contemporary comics. 6.-7. Illustrations in social and lifestyle periodicals: Walter Beach Humprey, George Luks, Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper, Chloe Cheese, Philip Castle, Roger Hane, Tom Curry, Guy Billout, Steven Guarnaccia, Rob Ryan. Fashion illustrations: Paul Iribe, Max Hoff, Bernard Blossac, René Gruau, Stina Persson, the Vogue phenomenon. 8.-9. Music illustration 60s-80s. flight. Subcultures, counterculture. Modern tattoo. Fanzines, self-publishing. 10. Digitization and new visual languages ??from the 1990s: John Hersey, Kam Tang, Christoph Niemann, eBoy, Wired magazine. Street-culture inspiration. Penetration of illustration into new media, animation, game design. 11. Expressive tendencies and inspiration by children's drawing. Pretty-ugly design as a new type of expression.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is intended for students of the bachelor's study specialization Graphic Design, who have already completed introductory courses in the history of art and design, focusing on the development of illustrative images, especially artistic illustration. The aim of the course is to give a historical overview of the development of illustration, its types and functions. Emphasis in teaching is placed on the social significance that has been attributed to illustrative images throughout history, and on their connection with important social currents and movements. The course enables students to gain an overview of the development of visual languages and themes appearing in the illustrative image, in the context of historical social changes. Teaching is in the form of lectures, the emphasis is on the analysis of means of expression, debate with students and contextual reflection with respect to current events in the field.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
