Course content
Themes of the lectures: 1. Introduction to mapping, division, institutions, literature 2. Map, scale, types of maps, symbols ISOM a ISSOM, the procedure of map elaboration. 3. Cartographic background, sources, types, elaboration. 4. Distance exploration of the Earth, photographies from the plane, GPS 5. Maps´ content, additional and constructive features, cartographical and spatial expressing instruments. 6. Princip of terrain work, measurement of the length and angles, creation of the polygons 7. Generalization and expressing instruments, reduction of error rate. 8. Digitalization of terrain work. 9. Software OCAD, alternatives. 10. Work in the programme OCAD basic principles, drawing and editation. 11. Work in programme OCAD construction of the tracks. 12. Work in programme OCAD GPS connection. 13. Pre-print preparation DTP publishing 14. Design, layout, connection with cartographic databases. Themes of the seminars: The students will work in terrain during seminars.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the theoretical concepts of geographic cartography as the basis for practical outcome in the form of separate creation of large-scale map series.
After passing this subject, the student is able: - To provide relevant cartographic backgrounds, to elaborate them and prepare for usage - To map concrete area in the big scale (1:2 - 5000) - To digitalize terrain cartographic works in programme OCAD - To prepare the map for DTP publication.
