Course content
Themes of the lectures, seminars and practical lessons: 1. Boat ride on the river, danger during water tourism and safeness rules 2. Characteristics of water flow, water reading, technique of boat riding. Practical lessons: - Boating on the rowboat and rowing simulator, basic principles of boating on kayak and canoe. - Boating along a stream, boating under the flash, direction changing, boating in sluice, boating out of the stream, boating into the stream, rescue, boating on the raft boat. - Course running is dependent on instantaneous conditions (especially on water stage) Credit requirements: - Kayak and kanoe technically correct boating on located track in time limit. Evaluation is specified according to the achieved time (possible modification according to the conditions). - Kanoe kanoe turning while boating opposite the stream with the help of a paddle in the water or by doing the wide stroke backwards of bow paddler (stern padller does wide stroke backward or wide stroke forward) boating out of the stream while doing wide stroke backwards or with the help of a bow paddler putting a paddle in the water (stern paddler does wide stroke forward or wie stroke backward) and boating again in the stream from the other side (2 times). - Kanoe double-sided boating in the stream under the flash (pairs) - Kayak double-side boating in the stream under the flash, finished by the help of a paddle in the water. - Kayak kayak turning while boating against the stream with the help of a paddle in the water boating out of the stream with the help of a paddle in the water and boating back from the other side (2 times). - Team leading in a section of the track; prove of knowledge about the water flow and ability to orientate oneself in the water. Learning outcomes
The aim of the study-unit is to acquaint students with the basics of canoeing and kayaking on the flows of varying difficulty. Students are expected to create the skills necessary to operate the boat in the current knowledge and reading of water with it. The aim is also to create conditions for the cultivation of skills that may be considered necessary for the succesfull implementation of recovery and rescue activities associated not only with the operation of the boat, but also their own or residence in flowing water or assisted saving individuals in the stream. The concent of the study-unit is to acquire and cultivate skills associated with the operation of the boat to the flowing water. Ephasis is placed on safe operation of canoe, kayak and rafting boat, and other available boats, so student has mastered not only rolling off the usual tourist Czech flows, but also the basic sport ride that allows to complete the ride on a boating channel. In addition, students are forwarded to another and theoretical knowledge in safety stay on watercourses, material, equipment, organization, etc. Student within his/her active involvement also implements the management of the group to section of watercourse with the task of presenting the acquired knowledge of the selection ability to work with a map and the artsto focus on the flow.
After passing this subject the student: - Is able to control the boat in the water in on the level WW2 in common hydrological conditions. - Is able to control the boat during more difficult conditions while using sport boating on kayak and kanoe. - Knows how to rescue and help in the condition of water tourism and can correctly decide about the rescue and help in specific conditions of difficlut water flow. (E.g. water drill-grounds, water canals). - Can define key points for improving the skills conneted with boating on kayak and kanoe. - Can lead the team, can choose the suitable water terrain for boating. - Knows the possible risks and dangers in the water, can warn of dangerous points and difficulties in the water. - Can use the gained skills in the changeable conditions of the water flow. - Knows the basic terminology of canoeing and water tourism. - Can define the basic mistakes which he/she makes or which make others and help to clear them out. - Can use the gained competence for further knowledge and skills development. - Can demonstrate selected paddling skills.
