Lecture Topics: 1. Theoretical approaches to health and disease. 2. Biopsychosocial model of health and disease. 3. Determinants of health. 4. WHO and its role in prevention of population health. 5. Psychosocial factors. 6. Psychological and social consequences of illness. 7. Stress as a risk factor. 8. Stress situations and their effects - conflict, frustration, stress, trauma, crisis, deprivation. 9. Burnout in non-medical healthcare workers - definition, burnout, burnout, stages, diagnosis, prevention, risk factors. 10. The consequences of burnout. 11. Quality of life and its importance in health care 12. Supervision - terminology, forms. Seminar Topics: 1. Health and Health Care. 2. Research studies in the field of sociology of medicine and health. 3. Psychosocial support. Psychic resistance of the individual, resilience. 4. Health 2020. 5. Quality of life measurement. Learning outcomes
The subject allows students gain knowledge about psychosocial aspects with focus on health care. It introduces students to terms of illness, health, social dimension of health and illness. Within the optional subject, the knowledge is focused on the interpretation of biomedical and bio-psycho-social models of health and disease, the concepts of vulnerability and resilience. The student is acquainted with the concepts of mental resilience. Furthermore, with psychosocial aspects of care for patients with various diagnoses. Part of the optional subject is the issue of burnout syndrome in helping professions, mental hygiene and supervision. The subject supports the development of analytical and communication skills of the student with regard to their involvement in the management of a health or social workplace.
Expertise: Student can describe psychosocial aspects in health care. Student can explain individual aspects of managerial function in the social and psychological level and define terms related to that area. Student can describe burnout in helping professions, possibilities of supervision and mental hygiene. Professional skills: The student is able to organize, plan, manage and perform a managerial position in a healthcare facility with regard to psychosocial aspects. Student proposes measures in the area of prevention of burnout in the medical staff. Student proposes a supervision program on the workplace. The student can analyze contract psychosocial problem.
