Lecture topics: (2 hours/week) 1. General division surgery. 2. Types of anesthesia, complications. 3. Surgical head diseases. 4. Neck and chest surgery. 5. Abdominal surgery - acute abdomen, hernias. 6. Abdominal surgery - Diseases of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. Diseases of the large intestine and rectum. 7. Abdominal surgery - Diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts, liver, spleen and pancreas. Operations in oncology. 8. Basics of orthopedics and neurosurgery. 9. Urological problems in surgery. 10. Transplantation, transplantation program. Seminar topics: 1. Assignment of seminar work. Preoperative and postoperative care. 2. Nursing process of a patient after head surgery. 3. Nursing process of a patient after thyroid and breast surgery. 4. Nursing process of a patient after acute abdomen surgery. 5. Nursing process of a patient with surgical diseases of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum and diseases of the colon and rectum. 6. Nursing process of a patient with gallbladder and bile duct surgery, liver surgery and pancreatic surgery. 7. Nursing process of a patient with an orthopedic indication. 8. Nursing process of a patient after urological surgery. 9. Specifics of care for the elderly and pediatric patients. 10. Repetition, credit test.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to gain basic knowledge in the field of surgery. The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit and is part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. The basic pillar of the course and an important aspect for understanding the needs of patients with surgical disease is the identification of surgical patient problems, knowledge of causes, manifestations, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in selected, most common diseases, sudden and shock conditions and injuries. The content of the study will focus on basic and specific nursing care for patients with surgical diseases (examination methods, treatment procedures, preoperative and postoperative care, education, special care for drains, care for acute and chronic wounds and stoma). It characterizes clinical conditions, their etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment in abdominal, thoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, urology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and traumatology, plastic surgery and burns. The course includes the basics of anesthesiology, gerontology and pediatric surgery.
Expertise: The student is able to define the principles of diagnosis and treatment of selected surgical diseases. He knows the symptoms and treatment of individual types of surgical diseases, he knows the specifics of preparation for individual surgical procedures. He knows the symptoms and treatment of postoperative diseases and postoperative complications. Orients in the peculiarities of surgical care for pediatric patients and the elderly. Professional skills: The student practically prepares the patient for surgery. Can identify postoperative complications and know their solutions. He is able to provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with selected surgical diseases. It is focused on the scope of work in individual sections of surgery. Competences: The student is able to clearly and convincingly provide the patient with information about the nature of professional problems and to propose their solutions.

Credit: 80% active participation in seminars. Passing the credit test - minimum success rate 85%. Exam: Oral exam - verification of professional knowledge including the content of teaching in the course: Selected chapters from nursing in surgery.
