Seminar topics: (2 hours / week) 1. The importance of breastfeeding. The importance of breastfeeding for the physical and mental health of children and women. 2. The importance of skin-to-skin contact after childbirth and later. Self-admission. Consequences of separation. 3. Beginnings of breastfeeding in the first days after birth. Prevention of breastfeeding problems. 4. Best practices for breastfeeding promotion. Factors affecting breastfeeding. 5. Positions during breastfeeding, sucking on the breast, signs of drinking from the breast and evaluation of breastfeeding yield. 6. Solving breastfeeding problems. 7. Possibilities of increasing breast milk intake and methods of supplementation. 8. The influence of advertising on artificial milk on the success of breastfeeding. 9. Preparation of pregnant women for breastfeeding.

Learning outcomes
|
The course builds on the course Healthy Lifestyle and Nutrition and is designed as a theoretical and practical. It provides students with basic knowledge and skills in the field of breastfeeding support and breastfeeding assistance. The student will be able to give the mother enough information about the importance of breastfeeding after childbirth, as well as practical help.
Expertise: The student is able to define the importance of breastfeeding, knows the course of the beginning of breastfeeding, can describe the steps to prevent problems. Is able to describe the factors influencing breastfeeding and knows the procedures leading to adequate intake of breast milk, knows the composition of breast milk. Professional skills: The student is able to support breastfeeding, provide help with breastfeeding, can recognize the correct suction and correct incorrect suction, can educate women in breastfeeding issues. General competences: The student is able to clearly and convincingly communicate to a woman information about the nature of professional problems and suggest solutions.
