Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Introduction to communication. 2. Communication process. 3. Theory of communication - transaction analysis. 4. Verbal communication strategy. 5. Interview - basic characteristics, division, goals of the interview, anamnestic interview. 6. Specific communication skills. 7. Communication in stress situations. 8. Conflicts and their coping. 9. Techniques of spoken expression. 10. Principles of communication of people with disabilities and seniors. 11. Principles of self-presentation. Seminar Topics: 1. Verbal communication and its pitfalls. 2. Nonverbal communication. 3. Principles of healthy communication and communication errors. 4. Active listening and the art of asking questions. 5. Conducting dialogue. Individual and group interview. 6. Debate, discussion. 7. Assertiveness, training of assertive behavior. 8. Conflict and possible solutions. 9. Possibilities of non-verbal communication with individuals with sensory disabilities. 10. Technical aids for communication. 11. Self-presentation.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical - practical. The aim is to acquaint students with communication skills and rhetoric and thus enable the development of workers in the health and social spheres. The starting point is the knowledge of psychology, social communication and rhetoric, which are applied to the specific needs of non-medical healthcare professionals. Through practical training, the student acquires communication skills in simulated stress situations, understands conflict situations and their mastery, then acquires the techniques of spoken word and self-presentation.
Expertise: The student is able to define terms related to verbal and nonverbal communication. Student knows the principles of communication with people with disabilities and seniors. Professional skills: The acquired knowledge can be used by students in communication with patients / clients with disabilities and seniors in health and social facilities. Competences: The student is able to use the acquired elements of communication in direct work with patients / clients and their loved ones. Student is able to adapt the form of transfer of information according to the communication level of a person with disabilities.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit: 80% attendance in seminars, active attendance in discussions. Presentation of the topic and consignment of the seminar work according to instructions of the teacher.
