Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Importance and objectives of accounting. Accounting principles. Accounting Methodology. 2. Valuation of assets and liabilities, long-term and short-term assets. 3. Property and capital accounts, depreciation of assets. 4. Purpose and generic classification of costs, costs for decision making. 5. Financial statements, preparation and audit. 6. Profit and loss statement, structure. 7. Company cash flows, cash flow statement. Indicators of the financial situation of the company. 8. Annuity, perpetuity, compound and simple interest. 9. Long-term financing, WACC. Decision-making methods for investment selection. 10. Choice of comparison time, annual NPV equivalent. 11. Influence of inflation and taxes on financial decisions. Seminar Topics: 1. Legal forms of business and their relation to accounting 2. Balance sheet and its distribution into accounts 3. Accounting for tangible and intangible assets, depreciation. 4. Examples of economic operations 5. Taxes and their accounting in accounting 6. Balance sheet and profit and loss statement, compilation and analysis 7. Cash flow statement. Calculation of financial indicators of the company. Test. 8. Financial mathematics. 9. Loans. Interest rates. NPV and IRR calculations. 10. Including the impact of taxes and financing in the NPV calculation. 11. Comparison time. More complex evaluation cases.

Accounting principles. Valuation of assets and liabilities. Cost, revenue and profit. Basic financial statements and their analysis. Financial analysis, methods and goals. Company financing. Budgets and controlling. Present value, opportunity price. Long-term financing. Decision-making methods for investment selection. IRR, NPV. Comparison time selection, annual NPV equivalent. Influence of inflation and taxes on financial decisions. Model CAPM, WACC.
Expertise: Students will be able to describe the meaning and objectives of accounting and its principles, know the accounting statements and accounting of basic economic operations, basic indicators of the financial situation of the company and the fundamentals of financial mathematics. It will also have expertise in decision-making methods for investment selection. Professional skills: The student is able to post basic economic operations, to prepare basic financial statements and to analyze them. Furthermore, they will be able to apply basic indicators of financial analysis to assess the financial situation of the company and use appropriate decision-making method for investment selection. The student will also be able to assess the impact of inflation and taxes on financial decisions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students will be evaluated based on the results of the written exam (75% weight on the total assessment) and the fulfillment of individual assignments for the seminar work (25% weight on the total assessment).
