Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. General principles in pharmacology, medicine, medicinal product. Pharmacodynamics, clinical reaction for submission of the medicinal product. 2. Pharmacokinetics, movement of the medicine in the body, factors determining the reaction for the medicine. Side effects of medicines, medicine interactions, indications, contraindications. 3. Medications affecting the nervous system, smooth muscle, pain. Medications affecting the cardiovascular system, diuretics. 4. Autacoids, hormones, lipid lowering agents, antiobesity drugs, PAD, insulins. 5. Medications affecting digestive and urinary tract, respiratory tract, hemostatics, antithrombotics. Antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, cytostatics. 6. Medications used in gynecological treatment, pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium.

Learning outcomes
The subject is theoretical and consists of two parts. The first part offers general information about medicinal products in clinical practice, about the mechanism of their effect on the state of the organism. The second part offers information about medicines used in obstetrics and related fields that are relevant for the work of a Midwife. Emphasis is placed on the main effects, possible side effects and side effects of these medicines on the human organism, on the indication of medicines in connection with pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Expertise: The student understands to the legitimacy and to the effects of medicine in the human organism. The student is oriented in the effects of different types of medications and their interactions. He knows the basic groups of medications for individual organ systems. He / she is well informed in selected groups of drugs used in gynecology and obstetrics. Professional skills: The student will be able to monitor and identify side effetcts of medications, he/she will be able to educate patients about the way how they should use the medication and about possible side effects. He / she will be able to realize various forms of medication in clinical practice with respect to all principles. General competences: The student is able to communicate clearly and convincingly his / her own professional opinions to experts and to the wider public.
