Course content
1. Characteristic of educational process in 1. class. Aims of reading and writing. Preparednes children for school attendance. Period of preparation for writing, components of letters, printing letters. Teacher personality. Preparation of lesson. Self studying: characteristic of school maturity and junior school age, standards of preparation, hygienic and working habits in writing, dyscephaly. 2. Historical development of methods of reading. Analytical-synthetical method. Textbooks, analyse first textbook. Diagnostic inspection in reading. Equipment. Literary education in 1. class. Self studying: vocal and articulation exercising, pedagogical diagnostics, didactics games, dyscephaly

Learning outcomes
Educational work with children of junior school age, adoption methodical process of training of reading and writing in 1. class. Alternative methods of reading education, practical education of lettering and pedagogical diagnostics.
Theoretical knowledge: students are able to describe basic presumptions for successful management of beginning of reading and writing of pupils in the first class of primary schools (including special schools), to describe and evaluate stages of historical development of methods for reading and writing, to analyze specific features of methods and asses the importance of methods for initial primary education and professional practice. Practical skills of students include the methodology for practicing reading of sounds, syllables, words (including methodologies for teaching dyslexic anddysgraphic children). Students use appropriate phonemnemic, breathing, vocal exercises and training of articulation, and they are capable of pedagogical diagnosis in the first year of primary education.
