Course content
1. An introduction to motivate - examples. The role of digital technology in the modern information society, the concept of BYOD, the long text document of the seminar / qualification thesis type, its characteristics, principles of writing. Basic on-line information resources - UJEP Academic Library and its services, professional e-books and e-journals. 2. Czech grammar issues that are not usually taught in schools, digital tools for checking the Czech grammar. Fundamentals of the Czech academic writing and stylistics. 3. Fundamentals of the Czech typography, fonts and special characters, typesetting, composition, typography specific for an academic document. Standard CSN 01 6910 (2014) The layout of documents processed by word processors. 4. Basic functions and tools of word processing programs used to make a structured text document (the use of header and paragraph styles, their adjustment according to the Czech language standard, academic writing standards and typographic rules, using specific page, character and paragraph styles). 5. Specific features of word processing programs used to make an academic structured texts (content creation, index and references, specific page numbering settings). Formatting a structured document according to the above rules, checking its accuracy and functionality of styles. 6. The Copyright Act, citation standards and their application in the academic writing. 7. Basic functions and tools of spreadsheets, fundamentals of the descriptive statistics, calculations of relevant variables, their meaning and interpretation, simple methods of hypothesis testing, chi square test in the pivot table, linear relation between variables, computation of linear regression coefficients, their interpretation. Linking tables into a text document. 8. Basic functions and tools of graphic editors and photo editors, embedding pictures into a text document. 9. Basic mathematical and foreign languages typesetting (academic writing in natural science or in foreign language). Basic functions and tools of presentation programmes used to make a presentation within an academic lecture. 10. The risk communication in the Internet. Basic phenomenology, nature and types of risk behaviour and communication, principles of risk prevention in the online communication.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to attain a basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in developing long structured text documents of the seminar thesis / diploma thesis type. Tools available in the common office packages (especially text editor, spreadsheet editor) and on-line / off-line resources will be used to develop the document and to check the content and formal correctness of the document. The achievement of practical integration of language, professional and digital knowledge and skills. Emphasis will be given to formal linguistic, stylistic, typographic and information correctness. The course is designed as an introductory course in the segment of curriculum focused on digital technologies used for study and teaching practice purposes. Its completion is a prerequisite for follow-up courses of this segment. It should be placed as first in the line.
Students know how to use the digital technology effectively and at the contemporary level of knowledge when developing a structured learned text document of the seminar / qualification thesis type (a document with tables, graphs, pictures, index and a list of quoted literature). Within the UJEP, the student has a functional network access to EDUROAM network and to following online services: STAG, Moodle and the scientific library catalogue.
Prerequisites
1) A default knowledge and skills in information and communication technology at the level of the Czech Framework educational programme for grammar schools (RVP-G). 2) Students should have their own computer device (BYOD concept - notebook, tablet, smartphone etc.) that is already connected to the EDUROAM academic network, see the connection procedure at http://eduroam.ujep.cz/doku.php?id=cs:nastaveni. Computers in the classroom K139 are intended only for those who temporarily do not have their own equipment. 3) Students should have a functional access to the system STAG (online). Students are expected to verify in advance the functionality of their access following the instructions at http://stag.ujep.cz/, menu items "Access Data" and "Enter the system". 4) Students should have a functional access to the LMS Moodle (https://moodle.pf.ujep.cz/). Assessment methods and criteria

Ability to apply the lectured knowledge and skills in both practical exercises as well as in reviewing of the final seminar work a structured digital document of the seminar / qualification thesis type. Credit requirements: 1) Developing following documents to practice sub-topics and their upload to the data storage of LMS Moodle: - 5 exercises on various topics, - 1 seminar work, - 2 reviews of randomly assigned seminar papers written by other authors. 2) Completion of the online test. 3) Verification of the formal correctness of seminar work, functionality of its formatting and used techniques, proved practical editing skills of the submitted documents.
