Course content
First introduction to the study, course content, requirements for credit, study literature. 2nd Environmental Education theoretical background, the development paradigm of environmental education in the country. 3. Environmental literacy teachers, the possibility of detection and further development. 4th Ecology as a science. 5th Human environment. 6th protection of nature and landscape in the Czech Republic and the European Union. The cultural landscape as a phenomenon. 7th Global problems of mankind, their classification, dynamics and current status. 8th environmental problems. 9th issue of underdevelopment. Socio-economic aspects of global problems. 10th demographic problem. 11th globalization. Sustainable Development. 12 Choices implementation of environmental education within the contemporary Czech schools. 13th Non-governmental non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education. 14. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of ecology and environmental sciences, with an emphasis on the possibility of implementing environmental education as the theme for elementary and middle school. Students will be provided with the necessary amount of data and information on the individual components of the environment and identify ways that information appropriately and nonviolently use in their practice. Students are introduced to the global problems of the contemporary world and realize its relationship to local and regional problems. Emphasis is placed on the development of selected aspects of environmental literacy of students, including environmental sensitivity. The course includes a discussion of the concept of environmental education in the curriculum. After completing the course, students will understand a contemporary environmental issues, will be familiar with the principles of environmental education. Can describe the differences between the current and historical concept of environmental education. Can explain the need to increase environmental literacy teachers as a way of escalating environmental sensitivity of the child. Can explain the basic principles of sustainable development and the need for their implementation to human life. They will understand the basic problems of the contemporary globalized world. Propose concrete example of the implementation of cross-cutting theme of environmental education into teaching.
After completing the course the student will individually focus on current environmental issues, will be familiar with the principles of environmental education. Can describe the differences between the current and historical conception of environmental education. Can explain the need to increase environmental literacy teachers as a way of escalating environmental sensitivity of the child. Can explain the basic principles of sustainable development and the need for their implementation in human life. It will focus on the fundamental problems of the contemporary globalized world. Propose concrete example of the implementation of cross-cutting theme of environmental education into the curriculum.

Assessment methods and criteria

Term paper in draft form teaching units dedicated to specific environmental issues. The choice of topic is directed by the student. The work is justification for the choice of subject and his didactic grip. Term work will be given by email to the teacher (roman.kroufek@ujep.cz), which will check and submit feedback in the form of verbal assessment.
