Course content
1. Introductory lesson: introduction to the subject of study. 2. Historical development of women's struggle for political rights. 3. Current state of political representation of women in the world (legislation, executive, judiciary). 4. Institutional factors limiting the representation of women in politics. 5. Socio-economic factors limiting the representation of women in politics. 6. Cultural factors limiting the representation of women in politics. 7. Prejudices against the representation of women in politics, women and "political leadership". 8. Quotas for women in politics: normative starting points. 9. Quotas for women in politics: empirical examples. 10. Determinants of women's political representation at the national level. 11. Determinants of women's political representation at the regional level. 12. Determinants of women's political representation at the local level. 13. Political representation of women in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with an insight into the current state of knowledge about the role of gender and the position of women in politics. Attention will be paid not only to the description of the development and current state of women's political representation in politics, but also to issues related to the real quality of women's representation in politics, their access to political functions, factors preventing women from accessing representation (institutional , socio-economic, cultural, prejudices against the representation of women in politics, etc.) and finally how to increase the representation of women in politics (quotas, etc.). The course reflects current research on the topic of women in politics and deals with the situation in the Czech Republic and in other countries, at various levels of government (national, regional, local).
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student is able to describe the development and current state of political representation of women in politics. The student is able to interpret the quality of women's representation in politics, what is their access to political functions and what are the factors preventing women from accessing representation.
