1. Risk society as a sociological problem. 2. Old and new social risks. 3. Changes in the social and power structure of society. 4. Political representation: interest groups and political parties and their role in society. 5. Sociology of a political party. 6. Value orientations in society. 7. Interests in politics: articulation, manifestation, aggregation and representation of interests in the political process, asymmetry of interests, intermediate functions of political parties and civil society, their changes. 8. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to present the problems of today's political sociology, related to the central social changes - globalization, "liquid modernity", uncertainty and the breaking down of the contours of the welfare state. All this puts all the social sciences, but especially political sociology, in a completely new role. It is necessary to be able to understand and explain current trends in society and development concepts. Although the course focuses mainly on current sociological theories, it will also be based on the knowledge of "classical sociology", which will be repeated and deepened in the course. The interpretation follows two basic lines: a) historical; introduction to problems solved by modern political sociology; b) analytical - here attention is focused on contemporary political and social issues. The aim is to create in students an awareness of specific social problems and the view of them in today's political sociology. The course will provide a theoretical insight into the issue, but the theoretical paradigms will then be applied in practice - today's social debates and problems (unemployment, xenophobia, workfare state, etc.). The course wants to be a kind of preparation for students to learn to "read" and understand today's society from the perspective of relevant sociological and political science theory.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes individual theoretical approaches used in contemporary study of sociology of politics. The student is familiar with the key topics of political sociology.

To successfully complete the course, it is required: 1) Pre-Exam Credit: to submit a seminar paper; 2) Exam: written exam in the form of a test examines the student's ability to analyze and interpret selected issues of political sociology.
