1) Division of power in a democratic state - centralization x decentralization of power 2) Parliamentary versus presidential political system 3) Political parties - their characteristics, functions, organizations, classification 4) The nature and function of elections, the electoral process, the right to vote 5) Elections and electoral systems (proportional, majority, mixed) 6) Typology of party systems (monopartism, bipartism, multipartism) 7) Theory of political party families 8) Civil society 9) Political culture 10) Interest organizations and pressure groups - their nature and function, types of interest organizations and pressure groups in politics 11) International relations 12) The European integration and the EU 13) Globalization and international security

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as an overview and aims to acquaint students with the main thematic areas and problems that are of interest to political science.
The student will gain an overview of key political science disciplines, has knowledge of the topics discussed, which will be used in other more specifically focused political science courses (e.g. Comparative Political Science, The Czech Party System) and the study of political science in general.
Prerequisites
1. Political Science I. 2. Basic orientation in political ideologies.
