The course introduces some issues related to research and functioning of local politics. It focuses on several main topics. The first is importance of local government in system of multi-level governance. Second introduces various types of local government systems in Europe. Third issue focuses on most relevant actors in local politics (e.g., mayors, council boards etc.). Finally, attention is paid to the issue of descriptive representation.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes various types of local government in system of multi-level governance. The student is able to characterize the importance of local government in system of multi-level governance. The student understand which actors are most important for effective local policy making, and which actors are the most influential in terms of local politics. The student is familiar with issue of descriptive representation and its various aspect at local level. |
