Course content
1. Introductory lecture. Is there a possible discussion between history and sociology? 2. Marx, Weber and historical sociology. 3. Civilization analysis. 4. Historical sociology and historical geography. 5. The emergence of a modern state of modernization of society. 6. Social movements, classes and nations. 7. Revolution. 8. Democracy. 9. Historical sociology of the city. 10. Historical (collective) memory. 11. Gender. 12. Historical sociology of international relations. 13. Historical sociology in the Czech context.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the discipline of historical sociology in the context of its development and methodological approaches of individual authors. An important component is the notification of fundamental solved problems. In addition, the partial goal is to point out the overlaps, interconnectedness or different views of other disciplines such as history and political science.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student will understand the basics of historical sociology. The student will be familiar with the development of the relationship between history and sociology. The student will be able to use sociological approaches in the analysis of history and politics. The student will gain a new analytical insight into historical processes. The student will be able to use interdisciplinary social science approaches.

To successfully complete the course, it is required to submit a seminar paper in the range of 5 to 7 standard pages and a presentation of the assigned topic in the seminar.
