1. Introduction to regional development and regional policy. 2. Theory of public sector, functions of state and public administration, relation between state administration and self-government. 3. Municipal establishment, Statutory cities and the capital city of Prague, regional establishment. 4. Theoretical approaches to regional development. 5. Regional development and regional policy - theoretical approaches and differences according to different economic schools. 6. Regional policy in the Czech Republic - principles, goals, tools. 7. Regional policy in the EU - principles, goals, tools. 8. Regions and regionalization in the Czech Republic and the EU. 9. Management in local and regional development. 10. State policy towards structurally affected regions. 11. Regional development of the Ústí region. 12. Euroregions and cross-border cooperation. 13. Eurofunds and regional development. 14. Smart Cities in the Czech Republic and the EU.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to present current information on the assumptions of regional development, which must be based on the principle of sustainable regional development and the balance of its pillars - environmental, social and economic. Both theoretical-methodological and practical aspects of shaping the strategy and concept of regional development are presented. These aspects are simultaneously framed in a political and socio-economic context.
The student is able to use professional terminology. Students will gain knowledge of regional policy and regional development. The student will understand the connections between the three pillars of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental). The student will be motivated to a deeper study of the issue. The student will be prepared for practice in public administration.

For successful completion of the course, relevant activity is required during the seminars, oral presentation of the paper and submission of seminar work.
