Course content
1. Introduction to the study of international relations. 2. The state as a subject of international relations. 3. Formation of the international system. 4. Four major debates in international relations. 5. International organizations and regimes. 6. Security and strategic studies. 7. Conflicts as a subject of study of international relations. 8. Peace studies and conflict resolution. 9. War in the theory of international relations. 10. Regions and political geography of the world. 11. Cross-border cooperation & International relations. 12. History and theory of European integration. 13. Institutions and decision-making in the EU. 14. The Czech Republic in the EU.

Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to the issue of international relations and European integration. It focuses on the theory and practice of international relations, which deals with areas such as the history of international relations, the concept of balance of power, geopolitics, idealism in the first half of the 20th century, insight into the Marxist concept of international relations, the rise of behavioralism, neorealism and neoliberalism. An integral part is the presentation of the theory of world integration, but mainly European. Emphasis is placed on emerging subfields of international relations, such as security (and strategic) studies, development studies or theories and conflict resolution.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student is able to recognize the theoretical level of conflict resolution. The student will gain an overview of existing theoretical paradigms in international relations and European integration. The student will acquire knowledge about the process of European integration and the position of the Czech Republic in the EU.

To successfully complete the course, it is required to submit a seminar paper in the range of 8 to 10 standard pages and successful completion of the exam.
