Course content
1. Three-dimensional conception of politics, theory of political system, behavioralism. 2. System theory, structural-functional analysis. 3. Institutionalism and new institutionalism. 4. Theory of dependence: center-periphery model. 5. Theory of rational choice. 6. Game theory, coalition theory. 7. Theory of polyarchy. 8. Theory of modernization. 9. Stages of state development and establishment of democracy in Europe. 10. State and political system. 11. Regionalism. 12. Conditions of stability of democratic regimes. 13. Autocratization. 14. Secessionism.

Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to current political science theories. It focuses on approaching the development of political science theory from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. Emphasis is placed mainly on the presentation of political science theories in the empirical-analytical field of political science research. It tries not only to present individual political science theories, but also to approach their possible practical application.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes individual theoretical approaches used in contemporary empirical-analytical political science. The student is able to characterize the specifics of individual political science theories. The student is able to choose a suitable political science theory for solving research and practical problems.

To successfully complete the course, it is required to submit a seminar paper in the range of 8 to 10 standard pages and successful completion of the exam.
