Course content
1) Europe is and will be Europe and national community. First, it is necessary to clarify methodological approaches to the concept of nation in comparison with ethnicity and race. 2) Importance of French Revolution for the emergence of modern nationalism 3) Influence of French Revolution over German nationalism. J. G. Fichte 4) Herder and his conception of nation. Kant's criticism 5) Origin of nation theory 6) Congress of Vienna and the concept of nation and revolution. V. K. Metternich 7) Italian national unification in terms of nationalism 8) German national unification in terms of nationalism 9) First World War and the role of nationalism during and after the war 10) Nationalism and the emergence of nation states after the First World War 11) Nation-state and national minorities, theory and practice 12) Emergence of the idea of European unification after the First World War 13) Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi and Pan-Europe

Learning outcomes
Students will get acquainted with European issues of nationalism, with its history and presence. The first part of the course will be focused on nationalism and its studying in theoretical and methodological point of view and the key moments in the development of the First World War and after that.
Student will gain comprehensive theoretical and methodological knowledge on the development of European nationalism in the First World War and after that. The gained knowledge will open their understanding of a number of key events in European history. The course will be based on contemporary theoretical and historical literature.
