Learning outcomes |
This Seminar is focused on birth of racism during modern history. Main attention going to be paid to the historical and scientific assumptions of the development of racial theories and literary racism (Count Arthur de Gobineau and Huston S. Chamberlain). At the end of this course there going to be some historical excursions to specific forms of racist ideology, e. g. Nazi Germany (focusing on the issue of eugenics and the Holocaust) and South Africa (apartheid policies).
Students will have knowledge about origins of a racism and race ideologies. They will be able to understand respective primary and secondary sources. |

Assessment methods and criteria |

Student will be assessed according to his/her active participation in seminars ( max.10 points), acc.to his/her essay ( max. 30 points) and participation in a final colloquium ( max. 20 points). For credit it is necessary to receive at least 35 points out of 50. |
