Course content
1. Political and constitutional institutions in Germany in 1871-1945 2. The political system of the Federal Republic of Germany: the situation in 1945-1949, the emergence and the situation in West Germany 3. The political system of the Federal Republic of Germany: the situation in 1945-1949, the emergence and the situation in East Germany 4. The political developments in both German republics in 1949-1990; constitutional and international aspects of German reunification 5. Specifics of the Constitution of West Germany (Grundgesetz) 6. Political parties (legislation, financing) 7. Political parties (programmatics, brief history, analysis of constituency, political extremism) 8. German electoral system 9. Bundestag, the Bundesrat of Germany, the Federal President, the Federal Government, the Federal Constitutional Court and others. 10. German federalism (federal states and their competencies, their constitutional and political authorities, the division of competences between the Federal Government and states); reform of federalism 11. German political culture 12. Prospects of further development of the German political system, europeanization

Learning outcomes
The course will be focused on a brief historical development of the political system of Germany, more precisely both Republics of Germany up to their reunification in 1990. Subsequently, the specifics of the political and party system in Germany will be presented, the structure of state and local government, electoral system and the German political culture will be taken into consideration. The course will be also focused on the current development of German politics.
Student will get acquainted with the subject matter, be able to analyze and interpret partial phenomena and the more general context and in the long term characteristic features of the topic in the studied countries and regions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Essay. Requirements: o proper preparation for lectures / seminars, i.e. regular and thoroughgoing reading of literature for a particular week, active participation in the discussion; o seminar work: it will be worked out according to the requirements of scientific text (it will be specified in the seminars) and handed in no later than the last teaching day of the term (it will be also specified). For each day of delay, the number of pages will increase of two pages. It will not be possible to pass the exam if the work is not finished.
