Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to get students oriented in the basic concepts and problems of international politics as they are presented by various theories of international relations. The course is included into the Student's syllabus in Political Science, and thus is focused on international political issues, which extends the knowledge of the seminars dealing with issues of internal politics. The course consists of thirteen lectures on the theory of international relations, which are focused on the areas such as the history of international relations from ancient times to the present, the concept of balance of power, geopolitics, idealism in the first half of the 20th century, as well as insight into the Marxist conception of international relations, the onset of behaviorism, neorealism and neoliberalism. This also includes the theory of integration of the world, but mainly European. The course will provide an introduction to current emerging subfields of international relations, which are mainly security (and strategic) studies, development studies and theories and conflict solution. The course connects theoretical approaches to international relations and European integration with approaches to political science and historical approaches.
Students will acquire the following academic knowledge: - can use academic terminology - can identify theoretical level of conflict solution - gain an overview of the existing theoretical paradigms in relation to international relations and European integration.

Written test. Seminar paper combining theoretical and practical approaches to the selected aspect of international politics in the extent of minimum 10-12 pages. Basis - areas of thematic definition. Examples of topics / areas of seminar papers: - Theoretical approaches to the Cold War - Dimensions of poverty, for instance selected countries of the Third World - The issue of failed states on selected examples - Global governance for example the IMF - Cultural diplomacy in a selected country - Copenhagen School and its concept of security - Theory of Euroscepticism based on the ideas of V. Klaus - Sources of federalism towards European integration - Spill-over of European integration on the example of the CFSP
