Course content
1. The concept of law, make an attempt to define it. Basic theoretical approaches to the law. 2. The function of law in society. 3. Historical development of law. 4. Origin and formation of the concept of law. The rule of law and constitutional law, legality, legitimacy; substantive conceptions of the rule of law. 5. Legal standards. 6. Sources of law and law culture. 7. Formation of law. 8. Legal entities. 9. Common law relationship. 10. Lawless behaviour and legal obligation. 11. Methods of interpretation of the law. Binding interpretation. 12. The use of law and proceedings in public authorities and courts.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to get students acquaited with the basic principles, structure and concepts of jurisprudence and explain to them the concept of law and its importance for the functioning in society. Students will know the basic theoretical approaches to the law, system of law and basic concepts of the theory of law.
Students will be safely oriented in the basic law terminology and the basic types of sources of law and the system of Czech law. They should understand the ways of formation and the application of the law and the nature of its operation.
